This is another drawing by P. H. Witton -- of the house of Priestley after it was destroyed. Witton made a total of six drawings of destroyed homes. Priestley's family, having been warned of the approaching mobs, stayed with his friend William Russell, chief vestryman of New Meeting, at his home (called Showell Green; the location is now Balsall Heath, some 700 meters south). During the evening hours of July 14 the pandemonium at Fair Hill could be heard at Showell Green. Unfortunately, the Russell house also was destroyed the next day.
